Det var en tid av nya idéer, industrialisering, rösträttsreformer och sexuell frigörelse. Mitt under dessa omvälvande år bygger Ernest Thiel sitt galleri på Blockhusudden på Djurgården, ett magnifikt renässanspalats som invigs storslaget 1907. Men det första världskrigets deflation drabbar honom hårt och när han dör Ernest Jacques Thiel f ddes i Norrk ping den 18 augusti 1859. Fadern var inflyttad till Sverige fr n Belgien. Ernest Thiel var banktj nsteman i Stockholm 1877, direkt r f r H rn sands enskilda banks stockholmskontor 1884-91 och hade egen bankirr relse 1891-1901.
